DESIGN

I thrive when I’m able to team up with others to generate novel solutions for challenging problems, particularly those that intersect with the built environment and human behavior

As part of a program at UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design, my small design team was challenged to create a redevelopment proposal for a historically disenfranchised and environmentally threatened neighborhood in Oakland. Over a period of several months, we researched the neighborhood and sharpened our definition of the challenges. We generated multiple ideas, prototyping them and seeking feedback from experts. Through numerous iterations (and long hours), we arrived at a final proposal that addressed the needs of the neighborhood and the environmental, social, and economic challenges it faces.

In my Design Workshop class at Vassar, a small group of students staged an event to spark conversation about capital projects, power, and accessibility on campus following an announcement that Vassar’s health center would be redesigned into the Center for Multidisciplinary Studies. Working with architect Damon Rich, we researched the history of the health center and created a guiding document for the architects and design process that summarized how the students and faculty engaged with the project.

For my Architecture Studio class at Vassar, I worked on a variety of projects to build foundational design skills. Images from selected projects are shown here, including a visual study of an object in motion and presentation materials for a hypothetical exhibition space sited on the Vassar campus.
